Snow Day Part Deux

>> Tuesday, February 9, 2010

We can't let the snow days go to waste around here. So, since Valentine's Day is just about upon us, Caroline and I made some cookies. Well, to be fair, I made the dough. Caroline tried to eat it. (Her left hand looks like she is just laying it there in the picture. But, she is totally making a grab for a mouthful of dough.) But really, what kid doesn't think this is the perfect way to make cookies? (What grown up for that matter?) She did help push down the cookie cutter for about half the cookies. So, I think it is fair to say that she helped. Besides, it was adorable either way.

A good day

Lest anyone wonder whether we are putting our snow day to good use, I
thought I would share a picture of Caroline creating artwork (this is
after she ate a good deal of the "finger paint" also known as
chocolate pudding).

Caroline in the Snow

As promised, here are a few pictures of Caroline outside in the snow. While this is our second major snow in DC this winter, this is really Caroline's first major foray into the snow. She was rather sick last time. But this was too historic to pass up!
She was pretty excited about getting out of the house, as you can see here getting bundled up. Note that under those jeans you can see are a pair of tights and some very warm sweat pants. THEN she got a pair of jeans she hasn't grown into yet.
The end result was a very bundled up little girl. We had great hopes that we could go sledding. Guess what? That doesn't work so well when there are two feet of snow. The brown box that I carefully saved for the occasion just sank into the snow. (It is too bad we didn't grab a picture of that. It had to be pretty hysterical seeing me just sink into the snow.)
Caroline thought the time honored game of catching snowflakes on her tongue was fun.
She was able to walk around a bit on the road (this is a road that had been plowed, by the way).
In the end, she did what all good kids do...she sat down and ate snow. (For the record she's actually sitting on the edge of a set of steps. Can't tell with all that snow, can you?) :-)

On our way to church

>> Sunday, February 7, 2010

Thought you all would like to see what it looked like on our way to
church today. This is Jack and Caroline going down Quaker lane (a
secondary road just off the interstate). The little pink hat bobbing
along way cracking me up.

Whew

We just got power back. It was only out for a half hour so the house
was still toasty. But while we would be fine it would be cold in this
house by morning without the furnance! We are very grateful for the
heat!

Two Thirds of a Caroline

We are up to snow depth of 2/3 of a Caroline (aka 18 inches). Jack took the yard stick out, measured Caroline (27.5 inches) and then went out and measured the snow in the middle of the front yard.

And then the poor guy started shoveling. I think this is the fourth time he's shoveled. I shoveled once. I'm pretty sure that the guys that our complex pays came twice last night. That is a lot of snow.

We were trying to figure out where this storm ranks in comparison to the one that we got on Jack's birthday weekend--December 17-19th.
This is what our sidewalk just shoveled looks like today.
This is what it looked like when Jack shoveled after all of the snow fell in December. I think we have more snow today. Don't you think? We're still supposed to get another 5-8 inches this morning. So, all in all, I think it is going to be a pretty big storm.

Which leaves our poor tree in the back yard bowed down

Snowmageddon

>> Friday, February 5, 2010

Although we live in a city that usually gets unremarkable and boring winters, we have been blessed this year with FUN snows! We got a great one a month an a half ago on December 17th that was affectionately named Snowpocalypse.

And now we have another storm that is supposed to be a big one. With dire predictions of impending doom we are told that we're getting somewhere in the vicinity of 18-26 inches. The Koller family will believe that when we see it. But, it is bad enough that they apparently just shut down I-66. So, we're going to eat soup and stay warm.

In the meantime, here is a little video we made this evening. Enjoy (and tomorrow we'll post pictures of Caroline in the snow!!)

Not to be outdone

Caroline's cousin Micah got a little messy this week. She can't leave him having all of the fun.

So, Caroline got some of her own spaghetti this week. She LOVED it. (Note, she also devoured her peas. Hooray for a little girl eating her veggies).
This is her confused look when I asked her not to throw spaghetti on the ceiling. I mean really, who would be so weird as to let their kid throw spaghetti onto the ceiling? Grandpapa can you think of anyone who would let their adorable and lovely child to toss their spaghetti?

A Whole Lot of "Talking"

Just because I think it is so cute.

It isn't precisely clear what she is saying but that "bitsju" "word" is her favorite noise these days. Makes us laugh!

What a difference a few months makes

I got to come home a little early today because we're expecting a whopper of a storm today/tonight (but more on that later). So, I thought I would finally catch up on the blog. Jack got our bouncy seat out to let his co-worker borrow it. Caroline thought it was a hysterically funny thing to climb in and see if she could make it bounce. We managed to catch a picture of her antics.

I thought I should go back and see the difference in size. Check it out. Wow has she has grown. Here is Caroline when she was 3 days old:

Amazing, isn't it.
