Planting a tree

>> Monday, April 23, 2012

Caroline got a tree today at school. So, of course, we had to plant it immediately. (And by we I mean Jack and Caroline). As you can see the operation was a success and the tree is now safely deposited in a planter in the back yard.

Spaceship

>> Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Well Caroline would tell you that this isn't the best picture because she wasn't allowed to get IN the spaceship. But she was able to see the Space shuttle Discovery as it made a very low fly by over the Washington Mall. She was VERY excited that she saw a "spaceship" and an airplane flying that low. I had to promise that we could go see it up close as soon as it was settled in its new home at the Smithsonian. Perhaps Papa will want to come too.

Egg coloring

>> Sunday, April 8, 2012

Sorry that this is a little out of order, but here are some pictures of the annual Easter egg coloring that we did on Saturday. Caroline was old enough to pour the water herself this year. She also could lower eggs in.

Happy Easter!

We have had a joyful and happy Easter here today. Caroline got up and realized that her Easter basket wasn't on display. But, she decided to go find the word "alleluia" that she hid on Good Friday first. She then went on the hunt for her Easter basket. As you can see she was finally successful (with a little help from Daddy). We had a great breakfast with Jack and I singing along with Handel's Messiah. (Caroline thought the singing was rather hilarious, which it probably was).

We then got ready and enjoyed a great church service. Caroline leaned over when the congregation was saying the Lord's prayer and said "Mommy, I know this part". So cute. And, if I do say so myself, I think she looked perfectly adorable today (thanks for the dress Nana)! All of the little girls looked pretty cute running around outside after church in their pastel dresses.

We then had our friends the Zealands and Jonathan Shui over for Easter brunch. Leon Zealand (8) and Caroline (who is back by the gate in the picture found a bunch of hidden eggs). I'm pretty sure that 60% of Caroline's diet today has been jelly beans. But I for think it will do any permanent harm.

Cousin!

>> Thursday, April 5, 2012

It isn't often I say this, but hooray for Facebook. I noticed on Monday that my wonderful cousin Biffy was in San Diego. Lo and behold so am I. We were both here for very different conferences. But we were able to find time to meet up for dinner this evening and catch up a bit. It was great to see her and meet her friend Sarah. And, of course, be reminded that she really is a wonderful person.

Kids' Choir

>> Sunday, April 1, 2012

Caroline, now being three, is old enough to sing in the kids' choir at church. They sang today for the Palm Sunday service. Caroline told me this morning that she wasn't going to go in front. She apparently changed her mind by the time of the service. She didn't sing a lot for the first song, but started to sing along and do hand motions for the second one. (In the picture she is just to the right of the children's minister's shoulder.) she also sat through one of her first entire services (having outgrown the toddler room and this is the first Sunday since then that there was no kids' church.) She was so excite when the said The Lord's Prayer--"I know this part Mommy!" too cute.
