Caroline and I decided to start our Olympic watching run by inviting over some friends. I got blankets out on the floor and the three little girls all laid out and watched. They didn't make it all the way through, but it was fun through the "C" countries. The next morning Caroline and I had a rather unorthodox breakfast of popcorn and mango pie while watching more Olympics. I think this is going to be a fun time!
Anna is now one month old and got her one month check up. She's grown from 6 lbs 10 oz to 8 lbs 6 oz. the kid knows how to eat! We got cupcakes to celebrate. Caroline kindly ate her sister's. :)
Caroline has proven very helpful and sweet with her sister. She was overjoyed to hold her this evening after she helped give Anna a bath. Her joy at helping and holding Anna was simply adorable.
Jack is out of town with friends from
high school this weekend so we girls spent the day together. You can see the after bath/pj picture first. But this morning we went to the Air and Space museum. Caroline is clearly her papa's granddaughter. She had a blast. She actually wanted to know all about how an engine worked, what the different dials on the dash of an airplane did (I did my best Papa), and why an airplane can go in the air. She insisted we go inside every plane we could. You an see her here "flying" a Cessna. Anna was less impressed, but was a good trooper. It was my first outing with the two of them together without Daddy. (It was raining all day so we HAD to do something out of the house). It was a blast. There were no tears and I didn't leave either of them anywhere accidentally. Overall a success. :)
Technically Caroline is trying to get Anna to tell her what is different between the two pictures. When it became clear Anna wasn't going to play that game Caroline "read" her a story instead. It was pretty cute. Anna looked a little confused but entertained. :)
Anna has a hilarious new habit. While laying on her play mat she tries to figure out her hands. She has been waving them but clearly hasn't gotten it down. I walk away for 2 seconds and hear blood curdling screams. I rush back and can't figure out why she is all of a sudden crying. Lo and behold I figure out she is pulling her own hair in the back of her head. She has done it a couple of times and every time he fights me as I try to disentangle her hand. Too funny.
Read more...Anna is proving to be our more relaxed, laid back kid so far. But this is a rather extreme picture of that. She was pretty happy here with Daddy holding her.
For the week after Anna was born we were blessed to have my parents here. But the person who probably had the most fun was Caroline. Papa took her out to breakfast twice (one time letting her have carrot cake--which lets be honest has about the same nutritional value as a donut, so it seemed fair to me). They went to the zoo. They splashed in the pool. They got ice cream. Somewhere in there they also made dinner every night and did all my ironing and laundry. I miss Nana and Papa. :) We were so grateful to have them here.
Well, Anna is taking her first adventure in stride. We had a major storm come whipping through the region last night. We had thunder, lightening and 70 mile per hour winds. It was Anna's first trip to the basement in the middle of the night. I think I saw a report that 400,000 people in the area are without power. So...newborn+no power+100 degree temps forecast=hotel room. We are all hanging out at the Residence Inn. Caroline is watching a Winnie the Pooh video. Anna is cool. Mommy can lay on a comfy bed. There is free wifi for Daddy. Everyone is happy. God was gracious to us.
Anna Beatrice Koller joined our family on June 22, 2012 at 2:00 am on the dot. She was 6 lbs, 15 oz; 19 3/4 inches. She was kind to her mommy in labor, is healthy and as you can see below is particularly adorable. We are home now and adjusting to being a family of four. Caroline is enamored with her (though I think a little disappointed by the amount of sleeping). Caroline calls her "my Anna." Precious.
