First road trip

>> Sunday, June 27, 2010

We have a few more pictures we will have to post, but this one is so
cute I had to put it up. We took our first family road trip this
weekend. DC to South Bend to Indy (for Laurie's baby shower) and then
home. Caroline was fantastic for any kid, but particularly for being
16 months old. We sang kids songs, pointed at trucks, read books and
occasionally Caroline napped. This is the last nap of the trip (which
I am sure she thought would never end). While good in the car she
slept little. Poor thing is now exhausted. But we made up for it in
several playland stops, her first sugar cereal and ice cream for
snack. If you're on a long road trip the rules have to loosen a bit!

Pyramids

>> Monday, June 14, 2010

I really don't even know how to describe how immense these are. They
are just HUGE. After being forwarned that the stairs up the largest
pyramid are well less than up to OSHA standards (think one way wood
stairs in very very poor repair). So I went into the smaller one where
you go down limestone/granite stairs instead. I can post more pictures
later. But for now you can take my word for the enormity of the
pyramids size!

Here's another one

I mean, really how cute is this kid? Sadly this adorable picture was
quickly followed by her favorite (tragic) new word: "no". It would be
more sad if it wasn't accompanied with a finger wagging. It is hard to
keep a staight face when she points her finger at the milk she just
spilled wags her finger and says (while shaking her head) "nooo nooo".
Too much.

In other news we are happy to report that Caroline is NOT afraid of
bullies. A 3 1/2 almost 4 year old took her ball on the playground the
other day. I wasn't there but her teacher gave me the report. Caroline
marched over to her and said "MINE"...some pulling ensued. Apparently
Caroline won and walked off with her ball. The kid has 8 inches and
many many pounds on Caroline. Caroline will have to learn sharing and
kidness. But for now we're pleased she doesn't get pushed around.

And more importantly

Here's a recent picture of Caroline eating with her fork.

I know I know

We are way behind. I'll try to catch this up in the next little bit.
But, for now a quick note. As many of you know, I am heading to Egypt
(Cairo) this evening. So pictures and reports on that to follow over
the next few days. But for now I am gearing up for what is going to be
a LONG 11 1/2 hour flight. It is no exaggeration to say that at least
half of the passengers on this flight are under 10. We are now going
to put the theory that being a parent makes you more understanding on
a plane to the test. Oh to be able to post an audio file of the noise
of over tired children waiting for our 10 pm flight.

Signs of Spring

It is cold and rainy here, but Caroline and I found a sign of spring
yesterday. For the first time since I planted them three years ago my
peonies have flowered!
